The Thinner the Better?

The BMI of an average Asian adult ranges from 18.5 to 22.9. What problems arise if our BMI dips below 18.5? Similar to obesity, being underweight can also bring about a number of health risks. For one, our immune system may be compromised, leaving us prone to infection and disease. Other symptoms include hair loss, disrupted hormone regulation, and reduced muscle mass. Being underweight can also affect our intake and absorption of vital nutrients while increasing the risk of osteoporosis and anemia. It is therefore important to maintain a healthy weight and not to go overboard with the dieting!
