Too much sugar = heart disease ?

Many types of pre-packaged foods and beverages contain added sugar to improve flavour. Excessive sugar intake is strongly related to obesity, and increased cholesterol levels. It can even increase the risk of dying from heart disease. According to a study conducted by JAMA, a diet that is excessive in sugar (17% to 21% percent of calories from added sugar) could significantly increase the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. So how much sugar can we consume every day?

The American Heart Association recommends:
No more than 6 teaspoons or 100 calories a day of sugar for most women.
No more than 9 teaspoons or 150 calories a day for most men.

Stay heart healthy, start cutting down on sugar today!
