Health Quiz

Do I have metabolic syndrome?

Central obesity:
Waist Circumference
Men: >= 40 inches (102 cm)
Women: >=35 inches (88 cm)
Elevated triglycerides: >= 150 mg/dL
Reduced HDL ('good') cholesterol:
Men: less than 40 mg/dL
Women: less than 50 mg/dL
Elevated blood pressure: >= 130/85 mm Hg
Elevated fasting glucose: >=100 mg/dL

You are having metabolic syndrome if you have any three of the above problems, based on the criteria proposed by the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) Adult Treatment Panel III, the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

For managing both long- and short-term risk, lifestyle therapies are the first-line interventions to reduce the metabolic risk factors.

I never smoked.
I always or nearly always get at least 7-8 hours of sleep daily.
I never drink alcoholic beverages.
I achieve or maintain a healthy body weight.
