Healthy Community - Health Union
In recent years, the Lifestyle Management Center at Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Tsuen Wan (HKAH – TW) has actively worked alongside various organizations to host community health promotion activities. By providing accurate and comprehensive health information to the public, the Center hopes to raise awareness of the importance of healthy living.
In 2010, HKAH – TW partnered with several government departments, non-governmental organizations, and the Tsuen Wan Safe and Healthy Community Steering Committee to launch Health Union, as well as community activities such as “Healthy Housing Estates” and “Health Churches”.
Organizations interested in becoming a partner may contact our Lifestyle Management Center at 2275 6338 (tel) or 2275 6432 (fax).
During the summer of 2009, Adventist Health and WHO jointly hosted the Global Conference on Health and Lifestyle in Geneva, Switzerland. Bringing together experts from WHO and leaders from over 200 Adventist Health organizations, the conference explored strategies to improve the health of communities worldwide, and concluded that the health and quality of life within communities depended on people making the right lifestyle choices and adopting healthy daily living habits.

ObjectiveCardiovascular disease is the third leading cause of death in Hong Kong, and is often linked to poor diet and lifestyle habits. Excessive consumption of high-fat foods and a lack of exercise can lead to high cholesterol and obesity, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. In view of this, HKAH – TW hosted a series of activities aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle and healthy heart concepts, including free health screenings, total cholesterol and blood glucose tests, heart health assessments, and health talks.

ObjectiveIn recent years, a growing number of patients have been diagnosed with degenerative brain diseases at a younger age. The busyness of everyday life, paired with poor lifestyle and diet habits, has also led to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. Centered on the theme of “healthy aging,” the 2018 program provided Tsuen Wan residents with free health screenings, vascular age testing, and brain training games, with the aim of promoting healthy living concepts and educating the public on strategies to prevent brain degeneration.

ObjectiveIn a survey commissioned with Lingnan University Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies in 2011, the residents of Tsuen Wan District were found to have potentially different health risks such as obesity, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
