HA Charity Surgery Program — 50% PCI Reduces Medical Burden for HA Patient

In September 2022, BOG-TW and HKAH-TW launched the "Charity Surgery Program" to provide a 50% discount to patients waiting for coronary surgery in public hospitals.

Mr. Chung, 52, is one of the beneficiaries. The doctor found that one of his blood vessels is nearly 90% blocked, requiring surgery as soon as possible. However, with the lengthy waitlist at the public hospital, he was referred to HKAH-TW to complete the surgery. Mr. Chung said that in the past one or two years, he often felt discomfort and pain in his chest. The doctor recommended and performed a coronary angioplasty or "PCI."

Mr. Chung was very grateful for the care provided by the medical staff. He felt that the well-timed program, launched during the 6th wave, helped reduce the lengthy wait list and medical burden on patients by promptly providing treatment to those in urgent need.

BOG-TW Medical Fund Beneficiary Stories — COVID Affects Swimming Coach’s Income; Funding Approved for PCI Surgery

Uncle Wai, who loves sports, is a private swimming instructor and has taught swimming for over 10 years. A few years ago, he started to feel chest pains and numbness in his arms and legs. Once, he lost consciousness and fainted at the pool. After a doctor's diagnosis, Uncle Wai was found to be suffering from blood vessel blockage and needed to undergo PCI surgery.

However, due to COVID, Uncle Wai's income dropped drastically, and he could not afford private hospital fees. Fortunately, through BOG-TW's Medical Fund, he completed the surgery at Hong Kong Adventist Hospital - Tsuen Wan. He is now recovering and teaching his students to swim as per usual. He is grateful to BOG-TW for helping him recover.

BOG-TW Medical Fund Beneficiary Stories — Former High Jump Athlete Shares Hip Joint Replacement Surgery Experience

Uncle Lam (76 years old) used to be a high jump athlete with a personal best of 2.16m, and remained active even after retiring as a PE teacher. Due to deteriorating hip joint conditions that surfaced in 2020, the former sportsman could not even walk short distances anymore. Yet, he had been waiting for two years for surgery at public hospitals.

Upon learning of this, Dr. Wong Sze Hung from Health For All and BOG-TW promptly arranged free surgery under our Charity General Medical Fund, helping Uncle Lam gain a new lease on life.

"The HKAH-TW team took good care of me. After the surgery, my hip joint is no longer in pain, and I feel ecstatic and grateful to the hospital and the doctors."

Beneficiary Story - Bilateral Cataracts for 20 years, Finally Able to See Bus Numbers Post-Surgery

Granny Lin (81) suffered from cataracts in both eyes for over 20 years. Since she cannot afford cataract surgery at a private hospital, she has to wait for a long time in public hospitals.

In the past two years, her vision worsened - she can only see up to a foot away from her left eye. It significantly impacted her daily activities, and she had to rely on others constantly, such as passers-by to help her get on the correct bus buses or neighbors to read her letters.

She recently underwent surgery on her left eye under the "Charity Cataract Surgery Program," funded by the Chow Tai Fook Medical Foundation and BOG-TW.

She removed her eye patch 3 days post-surgery, and the vision in her left eye is no longer blurred. She said, "I am so happy to see flowers and plants."
