During COVID, HKAH-TW's Community Outreach Care Program, in partnership with Seventh-day Adventist Churches (SDA), NGOs, and community leaders, continued to find ways to extend care to needy, underprivileged families in Hong Kong.

2022: We distributed care packages (essential food items and COVID supplies), paid home visits and made follow up calls to about 675 underprivileged, needy families, and referred 7 applicants for charity medical services. We also conducted simple health screenings for 130 elderlies.

Our caring colleagues and administrators, like Dr. Monty Lee (Vice-president for Medical Affairs) participated enthusiastically in the home visits. They met beneficiaries like Ms. Wong (83), featured in the video, who appreciated the material assistance of having heavy groceries, delivered as she could not have lifted anything more than a 1kg rice package herself.

We have added festive delicacies for Christmas’22 and Chinese New Year’23 as a surprise!

Through this program, volunteers have also learned more about the practical needs of the elderly. “Having worked hard their whole lives, they now suffer from illnesses and pains in their old age but have lost connections to care from their immediate community.”

Pastor Chu of Mountain View Church said that the follow-up calls and visits made beneficiaries feel less lonely. “It is nice to know that there are still people in the community who care for ‘us.”
