Our comprehensive Lung Assessment is managed by a professional team of specialists in pulmonology, radiology, and clinical oncology, as well as experienced nurses, and employs the use of technologically advanced equipment to assess the lung function and respiratory health condition of patients.

Risk Factors

  • Aged 50 or above
  • Smokers
  • Those (eg. construction worker) with possible exposure to carcinogens including aluminum, arsenic, asbestos, bis (chloromethyl) ether, chromium compounds, nickel, and vinyl chloride

Act Now: Join our Lung Assessment Program

Most early-stage lung cancers do not show obvious symptoms, so regular medical checkups are the best solution for early detection. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Hong Kong, and smoking is the main but preventable cause of lung cancer. Other risk factors including exposure to secondhand smoke, carcinogens in the environment, and ionizing radiation, as well as a family history of lung cancer.

Lung Cancer Symptoms

The death rate for lung cancer is high. If you are persistently experiencing the below symptoms, consult a doctor as soon as possible:

  • Persistent cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest or shoulder pain
  • Blood in sputum
  • Swelling of lymphatic gland in the neck
  • Unexplained loss of appetite or weight

Assessment

A timely and proper assessment provides a clear picture of the condition of your respiratory system, and allows doctors to determine your risk of lung cancer. Doctors are then able to offer advice on treatment at an early stage if needed, or provide recommendations on how to improve your health and lifestyle to prevent lung cancer.

Low-Dose Computed Tomography

The lung assessment program uses high-resolution, low-dose computed tomography (CT) to assess the condition of each patient’s lungs through 3D images. CT is much more effective in detecting lung cancer than conventional X-ray, allowing patients to receive treatment at an earlier stage. According to the US-based National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), low-dose CT is the only screening test that reduces lung cancer mortality in high-risk groups.

Pulmonary Function Test

Pulmonary function tests reflect how well your lungs work by measuring the amount of air inhaled and exhaled. Lung function is thereby evaluated in terms of lung volume, forced vital capacity, and peak expiratory flow.
