Community Outreach Care Program

Charity Works

HKAH-TW continues our mission to extend the Healing Ministry of Christ with benevolence-based actions to demonstrate the Lord’s love. In addition to providing high-quality medical services to the local community, we have been actively organizing various (“total health” promotion) activities, often collaborating with other organizations, to reach out to even more people in need.

We are committed to a long-term approach towards reaching out to the under-privileged local families, elderlies who live alone (ELAs), and children from low-income families.

The Outreach Care Program is a long-term initiative that aims to organize activities for, and provide medical services to vulnerable communities, allowing residents to achieve their health goals within a familiar environment. The Program partners with various like-minded non-profit and charitable organizations in a joint effort to offer more effective activities that support individuals and communities in need.

Our Goals
Our Goals

Our goal is to extend care and support to vulnerable communities, and to continuously and progressively promote healthy living concepts through a range of activities, such as: home visits, distribution of care packages, excursions, free vegetarian lunches (to children from low-income families), health-related lectures and video screenings, and regular follow-ups with individuals, the latter of which may include referrals to charitable medical services when needed.

With your support, we will be able to support even more of those in need, and extend love and care to all corners of society!

Elderly Program
Elderly Program

The Outreach Care : Elderly program supports low-income elderly individuals and couples, and aims to safeguard their health and wellbeing through a wide range of activities. From care packages and health screenings to follow-up phone calls from volunteers (which facilitate referrals to charity medical services if and when necessary), each activity plays an important role in the Program’s  mission to care for and protect vulnerable seniors. The Program continues to expand and currently covers areas including Tsuen Wan, Shatin, Mong Kok, Shau Kei Wan, and Tai Po.

Outreach Care—Elderly

Ms. To, in her 70s, was known for her introversion and shyness, rarely engaging with others. However, her life took a remarkable turn through the "Outreach Care: Elderly Program" organized by Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Tsuen Wan (HKAH – TW), where she encountered compassionate volunteers from the hospital and subsequently formed connections with the Tsuen Wan Church.  "At first, being illiterate, I couldn't understand anything," Ms. To recalled. Nevertheless, the volunteers' unwavering enthusiasm greatly encouraged her, leading her to actively participate in activities like Bible study classes.

Today, Ms. To not only serves as a valued member of the volunteer team but also joins fellow volunteers in visiting elderly patients. "Helping others brings me profound happiness," she shared with genuine delight. Transitioning from a beneficiary to a dedicated helper, Ms. To has discovered a renewed sense of purpose in her life.

Community Outreach: Outdoor Excursion Offers a Day of Relaxation with Support from Volunteers

Following the successful Poon Choi Banquet in November 2024, which was co-hosted by Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Tsuen Wan (HKAH – TW) and the Tsuen Wan Preparatory Committee of National Day Celebration and included 175 tables and over 1,700 attendees, HKAH – TW carried on the spirit of love and care by organizing a one-day excursion in December in partnership with Mountain View Church. The activity saw over 170 people take   part, including volunteers from HKAH – TW and the church, many of whom learned about this event at the Poon Choi Banquet. Together, the group explored Chung Ying Street in Sha Tau Kok (which was only recently opened to the public in early 2024), enjoyed a delicious lunch in Lau Fau Shan, and visited Kam Tin Country Club.

Access to Chung Ying Street requires a special permit from the Hong Kong Police Force. For many participants, this was their first time visiting this restricted area, and the opportunity to spend the morning there alongside a team of caring volunteers brought much excitement and joy. Most attendees were elderly individuals, many of them living alone or with an elderly spouse. Some were in wheelchairs, while others joined the activity along with their multigenerational family.

Mr. and Mrs. Wong are repeat participants of HKAH – TW’s outreach activities. “This year, we participated in HKAH – TW’s health screening at the shopping mall, the Poon Choi Banquet in November, and today’s local excursion,” said Mr. Wong. “The volunteers are so warm and caring, and we are so thankful for them!” Ms. Chan, who lives alone, said, “I’ve been living by myself since my husband passed away, so I am often quite lonely. I am so grateful for this chance to go out and have fun today!” In the coming year, HKAH – TW will continue its community outreach efforts by organizing home visits, distributing care packages, and making follow-up calls to those in need in the community.

Youth Program

By offering various activities and events, the Outreach Care: Youth Program aims to provide appropriate support and guidance to young people so that they may realize their potential and enjoy healthy, fulfilling lives.

Vietnam Mission Trip

In January 2024, Hong Kong Adventist Hospital -Tsuen Wan sponsored 6 students from the Hong Kong Adventist Academy to join a mission trip to Vietnam, where they enjoyed a chance to experience Vietnamese culture and participate in cross-cultural exchange. Sponsored students helped repair the walls of a local church office and fix community recreational facilities, while also taking part in cultural exchange activities and sharing the gospel through worship songs.

Thailand Mission Trip

In February 2024, Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Tsuen Wan sponsored 13 students and teachers from the Hong Kong Adventist College to take part in a mission trip to Thailand. In addition to teaching at a local school, volunteers also assisted in the renovation and upgrade of school buildings and toilets, and cleaned the village and churches. Through various exchange activities with the local children, volunteers also learned how to show love and care for others.

Leisure Pavilion and Summer Care Program

The program provides study space and organize various beneficial activities for children and teenagers in Tsuen Wan District to facilitate their study and develop their potentials. During the summer vacation, homework tutoring and extracurricular activities are provided for more than 10 primary school students, including group games and interest classes such as sports, cooking, handicraft and dance, and in particular, performance opportunities are provided for dance class students. There are also outing activities every Friday to ensure the diversified development of children.

Foodlink – Free lunch boxes and Food Donation
Foodlink – Free lunch boxes and Food Donation

Since 2022, Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Tsuen Wan has partnered with Foodlink Foundation to distribute meals and festive foods to low-income families and elderly individuals. Meal boxes are carefully prepared by our hospital canteen and distributed by Foodlink Foundation to those in need. In addition, surplus food from our canteen is also donated to other care centers each week, reaching even more beneficiaries while reducing food waste.

Spreading Warmth and Care with Meal Boxes for the Under-privileged Elderly and Families

Food-sharing not only fights hunger but also spreads warmth and care. Since 2022, we have partnered with Foodlink to launch the meal box donation program, embarking on a journey to care for our community through thoughtfully prepared meal boxes.

During this journey, we have delivered 7,150 meal boxes prepared with great attention by the chefs at Hong Kong Adventist Hospital - Tsuen Wan. These meal boxes are intended for the elderly, who are vulnerable and deserving of protection. We approach the selection of ingredient and cooking processes with compassion, ensuring that the elderly enjoy a wholesome dining experience.

In addition to our daily care, we extend our loving actions during important festivals by distributing festive food. This Chinese New Year (2025), we proudly sent 200 boxes of pineapple shortcakes made by the hospital cafeteria, wishing recipients a joyful and heartwarming celebration.

These festive gifts, filled with love and hope, have reached families in need. We are committed to “Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ”, and hope to continue these mindful, loving acts, filling our community with warmth and hope—much like the breath of God spreading peace and joy among people.
